Extra-Corporeal Shockwave Therapy is a modality that requires a specifically designed hand piece that relays high intensity sound waves for short periods of time. The goal is to have the sound waves interact with specific tissues in the body. This leads to neovascularisation ingrowth, reversal of chronic inflammation, stimulation of collagen and a break down of abnormal calcium buildups. It is most commonly used for chronic conditions such as plantar fasciitis, calcific tendinitis, muscular trigger points, golfers and tennis elbow, shoulder tendinitis, patellar and achilles tendinopathies.
